This is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. One guy decided to go right ahead and re-create the opening musical number to one of my favorite movies shot-for-shot using live actors and special effects. If I ever see this guy on the street, I’m buying him a taco.
His fifth one released! For a guy who says not to expect his new album to come out anytime soon, he’s certainly releasing tons of music over the summer. This new video’s animated by the guys who do “SuperNews.” You can check out more of their work on YouTube – I especially like this Twitter episode they did.
Speaking of Chuck Norris, Weird Al has thrown Charles Nelson Reilly’s name into the hat for the title of “Most Ridiculously Awesome Celebrity Superhero on the Internet” with his new Internet Leaks song “CNR.”
My vote still goes to Christopher Walken for that title. He can fly.
Weird Al’s putting out some new singles and videos, and it’s my self-sworn duty to inform the masses. These are part of his “Internet Leaks” collection, which may or may not also be the name of his next album. The first one is an original tribute to the lower-class worker (possibly done in the style of Jonathon Coulton) that I really like. The second one is an all right homage to The Doors.
It was really jarring yesterday to hear about the death of one of my childhood icons. Throughout the 80’s and early parts of the 90’s, it was hard to find a kid who didn’t think Michael Jackson was the greatest thing ever. I mean, come on – the guy was a gangster, a zombie, and a giant killer robot in his lifetime. And in spite of all the controversy and terrifying tabloid photos as of late, he was once the embodiment of pure awesome and inspired people’s work for decades to come. It’s a lot like the passing of Elvis, if Elvis had a monkey named Bubbles.
Something that gets me is how almost no one (including myself) ever spoke out about him like this recently. Up until now, it seemed like the only people in the media who treated him fairly were the creators of South Park. And yet all it took was one heart attack to get thousands of people calling in to radio stations so they could reminiscence about their favorite pop star – without a mention of him ever being “Wacko Jacko.”
Anyway, in remembrance of the guy, here’s something really kick-ass he made.
By the way, I went to a TV market research thing yesterday and pitched a bunch of ideas on the sheet they gave me. If Jack Bauer fights a bear anytime soon, that was my idea.
In the forum, Justas, Pstonie and I have been working to assemble our first compilation video. We decided on a theme involving music from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, made up a few videos (most of which involve cars) and now present to you, the Box of Mystery Retro-Remix.
MySpace is being glitchy right now, so it may not appear immediately. Try again later.
Why am I hosting it on MySpace? Well, that’s part of today’s news: YouTube is being an ass. Not YouTube specifically, but those copyright filters they’re using to crack down on videos with illegal content. In the last month alone, four of my videos have been taken down just because of the music I used, including my “Woolongs for Nothing” video (grrrr.) MySpace is a tad more lenient with uploaded videos, but for now, I’m going back to ye olde “click here to save” format on my website where any video I can’t get hosted will remain stored in the archives. Still, it’s a pain, and probably a good sign that I won’t be making any more of those videos since I don’t know which ones will get booted. Guess I have no choice but to make original stuff from now on. The age of fan-videos is over.
On the bright side, MySpace has graciously agreed to host Adventures in Nacholand in one full video. Awesome. Just as long as they don’t install a Beatles filter.
So how am I doing? Hmmm… well, yesterday Terrence brought over this huge monster Casio keyboard for me to practice on. I’m still trying to master the basics (London Bridge, Silent Night, Super Mario, etc.) And I’ve just started toying around with FL Studio 7, for all my music-making needs (I won’t need YOU anymore, copyrighted music!)
And Chapter 4 on “Incinerations” is coming to a close, with only two cinematics left to animate. After that one, I’ll be half-finished the game and will really need to start getting a music pipeline going.
TSL’s got me back on rendering duty. They’re aiming for a release later this year, so I’ll keep you all posted.
In my spare time, I’m goofing around with GBA “Legacy of Goku” games and reading Marvel’s “Civil War” at the request of a friend. I’m now a fan of Deadpool and wonder why he hasn’t gotten his own movie yet.
Friday night, Terrence, Brittany, and I all sat down and watched three hours worth of “Sam & Max” cartoons. Fantastic.
Then my mother scared me with this new “blood type diet” which is scientifically supposed to be a lot of baloney. Chicken kills me. Shrimp kills me. Coconut kills me. Baloney kills me. Great, thanks, mom. I’m paranoid enough about my eating habits as it is. Enjoy your trip to the Bahamas.
Oh, yes – and I nearly forgot: my Uncle Omer is a really funny guy! Remind me to mention him more often on this site.
I think I’ve lost the ability to know how to relax. If those last couple weeks counted as a vacation, then I’m really happy to get back to work.
I hear vacation and think of spending all day in a hammock on a beach with a hula girl serving me pina coladas. Everyone else hears vacation and suddenly we need to organize family get-togethers. Hours are spent cooking and cleaning in the kitchen, running errands, picking up people, and driving across the city multiple times with big trailer trucks kicking snow into my windshield during the dark hours. On top of that, I need to meet a tight deadline at work, so a lot of time is spent stepping back into the office trying to tie up loose ends.
Don’t get me wrong – playing on my brother’s Rock Band was awesome, supper at Red Robin, Dim Sum, and Chili’s was awesome, I found out that Zac Efron movies are much less painful than everyone else makes them out to be, and New Year’s was spent playing some awesome games of Cranium and Mario Party on DS. We even had a second Christmas because T missed the first one.
This is probably touching down on stating the obvious, but the holiday season is clearly ground zero for the war on stress. I’ve got every reason to celebrate and lift my spirits, but at the same time, I have to kill myself trying to make it all possible. It’s like playing tug-of-war, only I’m the rope.
It’s Monday. I’m back to work. Still stressed, but at least I can look forward to consistency again. That and playing Lego Batman when I get home.
Oh, yeah – and I managed to get all the chapter 4 backgrounds for my game done over the weekend. I rock.
This may have been the most uneventful weekend I’ve had in a long time. I pretty much got in on Friday night, and stayed home all weekend, leaving only once to go pick up some milk and zucchini. No going out, no restaurants, no theaters, no barbecues, no clubbing, no drive-by shootings – just a nice peaceful weekend to catch up on my work. And make spaghetti covered in hot sauce.
I did make the most of it. I completed an entire video cut-scene on “Incinerations,” and today I decided to give myself a quick break from the game to work on a music video that’s been swimming around in my head for the last few months. I think it’s been almost a year since I last made a music video, so here’s my new one. Enjoy!
(man, YouTube really butchers the quality. Oh, well. At least you can still see the monkey clapping.)
Aside from that, not many other plans for this week. I’m entering my sixteenth week in the program and texturing a 3D mud pump at work. And in-between working on my stuff, I’m taking some time to catch up on the old “Max Payne” games and looking forward to the movie coming out in a couple weeks (considering Fox hasn’t ruined it.) That’s all for now. How was everyone else’s weekend?
