Archive: Adventures in Dog-Sitting

My brother Nick and his girlfriend dropped off their dog at my place for a couple days. It’s a welcome change from the usual hairless cats I take care of, although they weren’t kidding when they said this dog was dumb. Ironically, she’s named Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom.

In the last day or so, this dog has:

  • Gotten herself stuck under my bed five times (and she might be doing it again right now.)*
  • Knocked the toilet lid onto her head at least twice while drinking.
  • Ran right into the patio window.
  • Eaten a cardboard box.
  • Sat on my head while I’m sleeping.
  • Woke me up again an hour later licking my face.
  • Spent a full ten minutes licking my arm while I’m playing “Ghostbusters.”**
  • Head-butted all my furniture because it was in her way.
  • Confused “Sit! Stay!” with “Quick! Run over there and body-slam my plants!”

And yet she’s more welcome than that cat who climbed into my closet and threw things at me.***

*She is. Six times!
**I wanted to see how long she would last before getting tired, and I gave in first because I really needed to go wash my arm.
***Cancel that. Got home and she TRASHED my place. Was awake until 2 in the morning cleaning up.
