A family near Paul’s house is very environmentally-conscious and travels everywhere by bicycle, walking, or public transit. One summer, they bought a very cheap car – their first ever – so that they could take a trip to the lake.
We came upon the car when the adults were still inside the house loading it, and the children were strapped and buckled into their seats, waiting for their adventure to begin.
Of COURSE we taught them ALL of the requisite phrases. “Are we there yet?” “I have to pee.” “He’s on my side!” “She’s touching me!”
Apparently, the parents put a VERY quick end to this behavior out on the highway. Too bad.
